Colorado Homes & Lifestyles February 1997 feature article states, "In a small town on Colorado's western slope stands an English manor house fit for a nobleman and his lady. Gothic arches define doors and windows of the imposing brick and stone structure, and majestic chimneys reach for the sky." It wasn't always so...
Having searched the world for a place to call "home," Pam and Joe Cocker were introduced to Crawford by a long-time friend of Joe's. Loving the expansive mesas, the majestic mountains, deep dark canyons, and the shocking age old geographical up-thrusts of Needle Rock, Castle Rock and Cathedral, the Cockers immediately knew the friendly town of Crawford was what they were looking for.
Joe met Pam in Santa Barbara, CA, in 1978. They married in the fall of 1986. In the mid 90's they purchased approximately 160 acres of land just outside the city limits of Crawford, CO. It took about two years to design and build the 17,000 square foot estate and working ranch. They called their creation Mad Dog RanchTM, after Joe's famed early album "Mad Dogs and Englishmen."
Crawford, about a 90 minute drive southeast of Grand Junction CO, is now the permanent home of the Mad Dog Ranch™, a working ranch, where the Cockers raise Ankole Watusi cattle.
